The very cheap heaters sold online work, but they are not built to the same standard of fuel metering, exhaust sealing or control, and we sell both with that stated plainly rather than pretend there is no difference. Conversions are heavy. Batteries, water, furniture and insulation can add 500 to 800 kg, and a van that starts at 3.5 tonnes gross can end up overweight before anyone has packed a bag. Every listing states its weight, and it is worth weighing the empty van at a public weighbridge before the build begins. Tell your insurer about the conversion as it progresses, not afterwards. Since 2019 the DVLA has been strict about reclassifying vans as motor caravans on the V5C, and most specialist insurers will cover a converted van as a camper whatever the V5C says, provided they know what is in it.
